![]() One of the biggest and most common reasons that people choose a thyme lawn is its extraordinary resilience in the face of water scarcity. Here are some of the biggest reasons that people are choosing creeping thyme for their thyme lawns. It’s highly resilient and tolerant to a wide range of conditions, has solid aesthetic appeal, and its low requirements for maintenance make it a great choice for homeowners that are looking for a better lawn option than grass. Why Grow A Creeping Thyme Lawn?Ĭreeping thyme, specifically Thymus serpyllum or “Mother of Thyme”, is a very common variety used to populate thyme lawns. These creatures are attracted to the tiny flowers for their nectar and pollen, making a Thyme lawn an excellent choice for supporting local biodiversity. When it comes to the wildlife it attracts, a blooming Thyme lawn is a magnet for bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects. The dense mat of a thyme lawn is usually only a few inches high, being similar in height to a grass lawn, but feeling far much cushioned and comfortable. The leaves are small and usually roundish, and the stems have a soft wool on them. In the summer they have flowers that can be purple, pink, or white, depending on the variety. They are visually stunning, and have a range of colors and textures once established. Thyme lawns are surprisingly sensory-rich. The allure of a thyme lawn goes well beyond the simple aesthetic or even the practical, it represents a proactive shift toward more environmentally conscious and ultimately, sustainable gardening practice. The creeping nature of thyme allows it to create a dense mat that is incredibly effective at controlling weeds. This diverse plant creates a pleasant, inviting environment that is full of life and color. Thyme is known as more than just a culinary favorite, it also has medicinal and ornamental uses, making it a true all-in-one solution. Thyme thrives in well-drained soil, and it is highly drought-tolerant, which makes it a great solution for areas prone to long dry spells, and sporadic water scarcity, or for homeowners that are looking for a strategically low-maintenance alternative to the conventional grass lawn. Thyme lawns are beloved by those in the know, and they are appreciated for more than just their lush, green appearance and aromatic fragrance, but also for their incredible resilience. You can find more info about the specific types of thyme here. The most common types of thyme include creeping thyme, woolly, thyme, and elfin thyme. This type of lawn is native to the Mediterranean region, and has more than 350 species, with many of the most common ones being used for lawns. Plant some among pavers too.Ī thyme lawn is a type of lawn or ground cover created by planting thyme, which is a hardy, low-growing perennial herb, instead of the traditional grass blends. ![]() What could be better? The feel of it on bare toes is a textural treat, and the look of a happy thyme lawn adds romance and an established feel to the xeric garden. ![]() Sweet smelling, drought tolerant and never needs mowing or fertilizing. ![]() What Is A Thyme Lawn? Wooly thyme, among others, makes a perfectly behaved lawn alternative. We’ll show you how by embracing the power of these little resilient, low-maintenance plants, you can say goodbye permanently to watering schedules, high water cost and consumption, and the constant need for mowing. That’s where the thyme lawn comes in, and we’re going to take a deep dive into what a thyme lawn is, why you may want one, and how they can best a traditional lawn in almost every way. Homeowners across the US are giving more thought to their lawns, and those thoughts revolve around moving away from the antiquated flat grass lawns that require heavy maintenance and care, and toward a better, more eco-friendly lawn solution. And, as much as I love a good piece of hardware, if I had to choose between the three I'd probably opt for Arturia's plug in just because it's so much easier to use and has infinitely more sequencing versatility.Īrturia Acid V is available now at an introductory price of $99. Being an actual analog synth, Behringer's TD-3 does sound slightly warmer than Acid V and the TB-03, but in the context of an actual song I think you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the three. The Acid V compares pretty favorably to those. I've never played an original TB-303, but I did briefly own a Behringer clone and I've tested the Roland Boutique TB-03. Arturia has been in the game for a long time now delivering excellent quality plugins that a misstep would be a true shock at this point. But, there was never much concern about that, honestly. ![]() Of course, all the features in the world don't matter if the instrument sounds terrible. Here you'll find virtual trim pots for adjusting things like the pulse width of the square wave, the cutoff range of the filter, the pitch tracking off the filter, clipping level and even a bass boost knob. There's a little arrow over the name of the instrument in the top right hand corner, and if you click that you're in effect "opening" the machine. Still, the tape, soft clip and overdrive are excellent.Īcid V goes a step beyond typical modern amenities. And the destroy algorithm fails to live up to its name. For example, the crusher is fine, but there's a better bit crushing option in the effects section. One of the most common tricks used on the 303 was to overdrive it into oblivion, and Arturia puts 14 algorithms at your fingertips for doing that. Next to that you'll find the vibrato controls and then the dedicated distortion circuit. The main instrument has added a few welcome amenities, including a sub oscillator with three selectable waveforms which gives the Acid V more oomph than the original ever had. Oh, and if that's not enough there are different playback modes so you can pingpong through a sequence, play it backwards or just bounce around randomly.Īrturia didn't save all the upgrades for the advanced tab, though. This gives you a lot of power to build something that's constantly evolving, especially if you're taking use of the full 64 steps. And there's even a polymetric option that allows you to change the sequence length of the notes, slides, vibrato and accents individually. You can easily shift sequences up or down a note chromatically or to the left and right to change the note order. ![]() On the left you can lock the sequencer into a particular scale to simplify things, add swing, change the sequence length (up to 64 steps) and even generate random sequences. What made it special was its odd squelchy sound that, when paired with the slides in its sequencer, produced something totally unique and became the core of acid house, hence the name Acid V. It's a bass machine - monophonic with a single oscillator, a 24db lowpass filter and an envelope generator to manipulate the filter. In part because the original 303 is a reasonably simple instrument. Well, I feel slightly embarrassed because there was a pretty obvious gap in Arturia's lineup I had overlooked: The Roland TB-303.Īrturia Acid V is probably one of the simpler instruments the company has made in recent years. We did get a version of the Korg MS-20 in May of 2022 as part of V Collection 9, but otherwise things have been pretty quiet. At this point the company has tackled many of the most iconic synths in history, and spent much of last year focused on its original creations like the Augmented series, Pigments, Fragments and Dist Coldfire. It's a double edged sword: if I take pictures without their prior consent, I feel like I'm violating their personal space, or worse, they'll get upset and come after me. I've mostly gotten over my reservations about taking pictures of commonplace objects in public, but I still feel a bit weird about taking pictures of strangers in public. people in general just don't really think of normal life as being photogenic, keeping their picture taking restricted to family gatherings and parties. nothing threatening (as yet), but lots of curiousity. I get a lot of "what" and "why" sort of pictures. One of the things I've noticed as I've taken pictures of non 'tourist' things is how non-photography people view pictures. One of my goals for this project is to kind of force myself to get over that self-consciousness. It's funny, I was just writing about this issue when I posted my picture of the day today. I do tend to go out either when there's likely to be no one or a large crowd.īut then I also get that feeling in foreign countries! I know that feeling well! Note: this is separate from the color science profiles that you choose when setting up the camera. I’ve heavily considered returning my phone and I’m still undecided.
